Paid by card or PayPal balance. Dues are not tax-deductible as a charitable contribution. Processing costs the League about 3.5% plus 49¢ per payment.

A candidate meet-and-greet or civic social within reach, every month. The first ask of a new member is never money or work — it’s an invitation.

Not “help out” — actual titles with actual responsibility: emcee, candidate liaison, guide editor, room lead. New members get one within ninety days if they raise a hand. Young members get first call.

Any member can enter the candidate workshop track at any time. No application, no screening, no gatekeeping, and no question about your politics.

Members elect the board and amend the bylaws. At least one board seat is reserved for a member under 30 — structural proof that the youth mission is real and not decoration.

No small print

Straight answers about your money

Dues are not tax-deductible yet.

We’re a Washington nonprofit corporation seeking IRS recognition as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Until the IRS grants it, dues and donations aren’t deductible; once granted — and recognition generally reaches back — they are, and we’ll say so right here. We file an annual Form 990 and publish it. For a $10–$45 membership, almost nobody itemizes anyway. We’d rather tell you plainly than let you find out in April.

The 1889 Society

Lifetime members.

The 1889 Society — lifetime members of the League of Constitutional Voters

Washington became a state in 1889, and its Constitution — the document our first pillar teaches — took effect that year. Lifetime members of the League are the 1889 Society. Every lifetime tier carries one vote, the same as every other member. Half of every lifetime payment goes into a reserve that funds the member’s dues for life; the rest funds programs.

What every member receives

Three rules on dues

  • Dues paid in advance for more than one year are accepted at the rate in effect when paid.
  • Dues unpaid 30 days after renewal suspend voting; unpaid 120 days lapse the membership; rejoin any time.
  • Any tier is waivable on request, no reason required.

Members-at-large

Live in a county without a chapter? You are a member-at-large of the League and the first person we will call when ten neighbors want to start one.

Junior participants (13–15)

Free and non-voting, with a parent’s written consent. Juniors come to meet-and-greets, help with the Empty Ballot Research Project, and are first in line for Youth County at 16.
